Yahoo opened its corporate headquarters to hordes of hackers, press and others on Friday and Saturday for its open Hack Day. After 24 hours of hacking (with a break for a private Beck concert in the Yahoo courtyard the first evening), 54 projects were demo’d to the crowd of about 400 people. Over 3,000 pictures from the event tagged (’HackDay06″) are on Flickr here.

Black Box Nation, a team of three fashion designers turned hardware hackers, unanimously swept our first open Hack Day event by mashing together a purse fitted with a Nokia camera phone, Bluetooth GPS, a pedometer and Flickr’s Zonetag API. Every few steps, the purse snaps a photo and moblogs it, creating a photo diary of the day. Creators Diana Eng, Emily Albinski and Audrey Roy all get to fight over the 32″ plasma TV they won. And if Diana looks familiar to you, she was the nerdy aspiring fashion designer on Project Runway.

Yahoo buys Jumpcut Online Video-Editing Company September 28, 2006

Yahoo has Acquired Jumpcut, a San Francisco video-sharing start-up that offers consumers the ability to not only upload clips, but also to edit them online. Jumpcut is similar to Yahoo Video (and YouTube, Google Video, MetaCafe, Revver, etc…) in that it is a social video sharing site. The part that’s different than any other offer out there is the ability for users to edit their videos right on the web - or Remix others’. Yahoo’s plans likely involve integrating Jumpcut’s editing and Remix software with their own Yahoo Video. Yahoo said San Francisco-based Jumpcut, which will retain its brand name, will become “bunk-mates” with its other Web 2.0 services Flickr, del.icio.us, and Upcoming. Jumpcut also makes out well, gaining access to Yahoo’s 500 million monthly visitors. “As part of Yahoo, we’ll be working on bringing video editing and remixing to everyone with an Internet connection, ” Jumpcut said on its blog today.

Del.icio.us founder Joshua Schachter just posted in the del.icio.us blog that the service has registered its 1 millionth user.

Moreover he confirms it’s more than triple the number of users it had just nine months ago. Maybe acquired by Yahoo! may have brought some more users to Del.icio.us. The company was acquired by Yahoo! ten months ago, in December of 2005. I am quite used to use it for my bookmarking & I must say it’s quite a nice bookmarking tool . Nway congratulations to Schachter, del.cio.us and Yahoo! for passing this milestone in social bookmarking.. Infact I also feel excited to be one of the users… They were going to celebrate it’s 3rd birthday bash on October 3 at Yahoo!HQ at Sunnyvale & now I hope the party will be much bigger after crossing this milestone ;)
